Business sector to gain from Sharjah Road Project

The Government of Sharjah, yesterday launched an ambitious Dh2.1billion road development programme to alleviate traffic chaos and ease bottlenecks in the emirate. The project, slated for completion by 2010, is being carried out as per the orders of Dr.Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. It will include the development of key industrial areas, the suburbs and public amenities. The onus however will be on easing traffic chaos along the prime routes and throughout the city, officials said.

“The new expansion plans for Sharjah, extending to Khor Fakkan, aim to widen the road s and make them easier to pass through” stated Mel Stewart OBE, Engineering Advisor to the Ruler’s Office at a press conference, yesterday.The project, slated for completion by 2010, is being carried out as per the orders of Dr.Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

The revamp will include improving Al Wahda Street,building two bridges in the Gold Centre and Flying Saucer district as well as an underpass in Cultural Square. In addition to these two projects , the Sharjah government is currently embarking on an ambitious programme to develop King Abdul Aziz Street, supposed to be finished by the first quarter of 2008. It will cost around Dh420 and will include construction of bridges on Emirates Roadand at Industrial Area 14.

Officials, meanwhile have urged motorists ot co-opoerate by usng the appropriate detour roads and promised to extend Al Saja Interchange to connect sharjah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain. Plans to convert Al Wasel Squarebridge and Al Wasit Street into a four-leaf Clover interchange are under study, they said.
