According to the 2008 Index of Economic Freedom released by ‘The Heritage Foundation’ in collaboration with ‘The Wall Street Journal’, the UAE has been ranked 63rd in the year 2008 as against 59th in 2007. The UAE has maintained its lead in fiscal freedom. The Middle East overall has emerged as the most fiscally free region while the UAE enjoys 99.9% fiscal freedom.
The UAE is ranked 7th out of 17 countries in the Middle East and North Africa region with a higher overall score than the regional average. UAE scores above the world average in fiscal freedom, labor freedom, freedom from corruption, government size and trade freedom. However, the index rates the country as weak in business freedom, investment freedom, financial freedom and property rights.
