His Majesty Sultan Qaboos has issued his Royal orders to carry out development and service projects in the Dhahirah and Batinah regions and the Musandam and Al Buraimi governorates to the tune of 249,248,000 rials. An official at Oman News Agency said that His Majesty issued his directives to the ministers accompanying him in his current meet-the-people tour to conduct field visits to the wilayats and villages of the Dhahirah, Batinah, Musandam and Buraimi and meet with walis there in order to study the needs of the citizens for development projects.
The official said that the Royal orders for the Batinah region and Musandam Governorate include the construction of a total of 702 kilometres of roads and 500 housing units, in addition to a hospital in the Wilayat of Saham, a health centre in Sohar and another in Al Suwaiq. The projects set for the two regions also include the setting up of souqs and slaughterhouses and the conversion of some of theoverhead power cables to terrestrial cables.
One of the most important projects being carried out are the Wadi Halti road in the Wilayat of Sohar and Wadi Shafan road in the Wilayat of Saham, the opening of mountain roads in mountainous areas of Al Khamira, Wasfi and S’hai in the Wilayat of Al Rustaq, as well as the construction of a bridge to link the two banks of Wadi Bani Kharoos valley in the Wilayat of Al Awabi, said the official. A side road branching from Aqeer al Abriyeen, the Al Khabt road, will also be constructed, said the official, adding that, in the Wilayat of Khasab, an important road project will be a link from the Khasab-al Khaldiyah road.
Road projects totalling 591 kilometres will be constructed in the Dhahirah region and Al Buraimi governorate in response to the Royal orders, who state that 306 housing units must be built for the needy in villages of the Dhahirah region. The official explained that some of the major road projects in the Dhahirah region and Al Buraimi governorate include the dual carriageway of Al Sulaif-Maskan, the Al Hajr road in Bilad al Shoum, Aswad al Gharbiyah road and Aswad al Shamaliyah in Hamra al Duroo’, and internal roads in Maqniyat, Al Hayal, and Majzi, in addition to the paving of the roads of Al Sinainah-al Fat’h, al Sinainah-al Rayhana and Al Murri-Qmairah (34km) and Hail al Khanabsha-Hmairah (12km).
The official pointed out that other important projects include water supply networks in the villages of Ibri Heights, Hillat al Nahdha-2, Al Ainain, Al Rabya, Al Subaikhi and Kawas in Hamra al Duroo’, in addition to conveying drinking water from Saih al Masarrat to the Wilayat of Al Sinainah and the setting up of a water storage tank in Hail al Khanabsha in the Wilayat of Yanqul. The projects also include the conversion of overhead power cables to terrestrial cables.
The official said that Omantel, during the current Royal tour, is carrying out a project to construct 3G telephone stations in 135 villages in the Batinah and Dhahirah regions and the governorates of Musandam and al Buraimi. He explained that 39 of the stations in villages have been constructed and that the rest will be completed within the current Royal tour.
