Site of Palm Cove Canal, real estate development at Dubai Waterfront

Nakheel, one of the world's largest real estate developers based in Dubai, has commenced flooding of Palm Cove Canal, the first of four main waterways at Waterfront. It will be 140 m wide with a capacity to hold a total volume of 4.2 million cubic meters of water. The water flooded today is the first to be introduced into Waterfront's waterway system. The 8 km long Palm Cove Canal forms the distinct island of Madinat Al Arab, Boulevard Park and the Canal District of Waterfront; and will be linked to the Arabian Gulf at two entrances.

Matt Joyce, Nakheel Managing Director, Waterfront, said, "It is a momentous day in Waterfront's history. When complete, Palm Cove Canal will boast five marinas, miles of boardwalks and integrated water transport system".

Construction of Palm Cove Canal that runs parallel to the coastline is more than 65% complete. Upon completion towards the end of 2008, the canal will boast 8 vehicle bridges and 2 pedestrian bridges. Dubai Waterfront real estate development's entire waterway system will comprise of Palm Cove Canal, Waterfront City Harbour Canal, Southern Harbour Canal and a section of the Arabian Canal.
