Minimum parking charges in Dubai have doubled to AED2. Minimum parking charges across Dubai have doubled as transport officials enforce the emirate’s full parking law.
The first hour of parking will rise from AED1 to AED2 in some areas, a spokesman for Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) told Arabian Business on Monday.
Parham said RTA workers would update between 100-150 parking machines a day over the next two weeks. More than 2,500 machines in total will be changed over this time.
Areas where the first hour is already charged at AED2 will remain the same, as will other charges, like pre-paid permits, said Peyman Parham, director of marketing and communication.
He said the RTA was bringing all parking fees in line with existing laws to make charges standardised for motorists.
“The original parking law priced the first hour at AED2, but over the last few years areas that have not been in the city centre have been priced at just AED1.
“We’re now implementing the law to its full force,” he said.
“There’s no more inner city and outer city areas, everything has been connected, so we have to standardise prices.
“Take Satwa and the Al Meena area, off Jumeirah Beach Road, now there is so much development in between them that they have almost become one area,” he said.
