Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, 10 January 2010 - Dr. Adnan Khalil Basha, Secretary-General of the International Islamic Relief Organization IIRO - The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (IIROSA) announced the launch of six endowment projects in Makkah, which are the mosques endowment, orphans endowment, education endowment, community development endowment, missionary work endowment and healthcare endowment.
The cost of the six projects is approximately SR 470.5 million, with expected annual incomes of SR 45 million when projects become operational. Incomes will be utilized to finance developmental activities of IIROSAIIROSA.
In a press conference held at IIROSA's headquarters in presence of media people, Basha said that Islamic endowment was, and is still, a social and economic cornerstone in Muslim communities, and comes in line with IROSA's continuous endeavors to be a reference in the area of charity and humanitarian works and the first choice of donators. IIROSA is continuously adopting endowment concept and professional investments to implement its community programs and projects through highly qualified human power and strategic alliances. This has already been stated in its strategic plan adopted by IIROSA's 4th General Assembly meeting held in 1st Rabi Awal, 1430H.
Dr. Basha revealed that IIROSA has purchased the lands on which the projects will be erected, with support from benefactors.
Basha praised the royal decision to establish a general body of Endowments on the recommendations of the Endowments conference, which was held at the Islamic University in Medina.
And the message sought by IROSA through these projects Basha said: "Confirm the leadership in charitable work, including institutional serve humanity and achieve reconstruction and development."
He added: "We seek to consolidate the concept of humanitarian Islam in charitable work, and a culture of solidarity with all the credibility and transparency in the framework of independence and impartiality."
He stressed that the Islamic Endowment has a positive role in building the Islamic civilization, and contributed on the construction and maintenance of mosques, schools and the Holy Quran katatib, hospitals and public libraries.
He said good people has always competed with, philanthropists fill the needs of people by the establishments of endowments and exchange of the proceeds to various charitable causes, which has had a profound impact on social cohesion and coherence of the nation rope interdependence and synergy.
As a leader in volunteer charity work, IIROSA includes volunteers from all categories of the society and from different regions.
Dr. Basha said that membership of the General Assembly includes 1,000 members, and that the door is wide open for others to join. Not only that, but the membership includes prominent females who are considered pioneers of endowment and volunteer work, and they contribute with their time and money for IROSA projects. Basha added that IROSA has contracted with a volunteer work specialized company to establish a permanent unit to develop volunteer work, build a database and provide training to volunteers.
Basha called to establish a fund for honoring volunteer who spared no efforts during the last Jeddah floods, saying that IROSA will donate one million Saudi Riyals for the fund.
The Secretary General, then, introduced information about IROSA's six endowment projects, which are:
- Mosques endowment, which will be built at Al Khaldiya. It is a commercial residential project composed of 11 floors, with a total construction cost of SR 160 million. Project incomes will be dedicated to build and serve 370 mosques in 18 countries at an annual cost of SR 26 million.
- Orphans endowment, which will be built at Ajyad Al Sad in front of the Royal palaces. The project is a 30-floor hotel at a total construction cost of SR 80 million. Incomes will be dedicated to provide care for orphans in 37 orphanages. The total annual expenditure is approximately SR 58 million, from which 256,000 orphans will benefit in 28 countries around the world.
- Education endowment, which will be built along Al Hijra Street in Al Masfala. It is a 22-floors tower with a total construction cost of SR 60 million. Incomes will be dedicated for educational care in 30 educational institutions throughout the world. The annual expenditure will be SR 7.5 million, from which approximately 32,000 male and female students will benefit in 53 countries.
- Community development endowment, which will be built at Ibrahim Al Khalil Street in Al Masfala. It is a 10-floor tower, with a total construction cost of SR 50 million. Incomes will be dedicated for rehabilitation and vocational training programs in 106 projects. Unemployed people will benefit from the project. The annual expenditure will be SR 23 million, from which approximately two million needy people in 97 countries will benefit.
- Missionary endowment, which will be built at Al Haram Street in Al Ma'abeda. It is a 28-floor tower, with a total construction cost of SR 87.5 million. Incomes will be dedicated for teaching Quran and instructions of Islam. Annual expenditure will be SR 4 million. Approximately 13,000 male and female students and more than 720 instructors will benefit from the project in 365 centers managed by IROSA around the world.
- Healthcare endowment, which will be built at Al Aziziah General Road. It is a 25-floor with a total construction cost of SR 33 million. Incomes will be dedicated for treatment of patients and to help them with treatment costs. Annual expenditure will be SR 9 million from which approximately 33 million needy people will benefit, who are covered by IROSA healthcare program through 285 projects.
DR. Basha stated that this is not the first time in which IROSA adopts endowment concept. Instead, IROSA believes that endowments are a reliable source for financing its charity projects. Previously, IROSA received gifts and donations in the form of endowments, and created endowments in Makkah, Madinah, Abha, Al Namas, Jeddah, Baqiq, Ahsaá, Dammam and other cities of the Kingdom.
In addition,
IROSA's Secretary General introduced through a presentation the efforts made to relief victims of Jeddah floods. He highlighted that IROSA, from the very beginning, reacted to the flood disaster through its relief program and showed great aid performance in all affected districts of Jeddah.
