Dubai Metro is all set for an opening on September 2009. As of now there is no change of plan, said HE Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA. However, considering the critical situation Dubai is in nothing can be predicted. There are only few more months left for the implementation of train network and some tasks are yet to be accomplished, he added further.
RTA Chairman was speaking on the sidelines of a Dh1.9bn deal that Dubai's transport authority had struck with Netherland-based entity VDL Co. According to the pact, Road and Transport Authority will buy 518 VDL Citea Buses from the Dutch manufacturer who will be foraying into Gulf region with this Dubai project.
These new buses will ply on feeder lines of metro stations in Dubai. Considering the proximity of Dubai Metro launch this deal assumes paramount significance. Dubai real estate sector currently reeling under the impact of credit crisis will get a huge fillip once the metro services start operations. Recently there were reports pertaining to residential property prices near metro stations touching new heights. All this augurs well for Dubai economy as well.
