His Majesty King Hamad and His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa yesterday stressed the urgent need to steer the region away from disputes and tensions.
In this context, His Majesty lauded crucial US efforts to maintain security and stability in the highly strategic region.
This came as the leaders separately received US Central Command Commander General James N Mattis.
They hailed strong bilateral relations and growing military co-operation.
HRH the Premier described Bahrain as key to regional stability, in light of its active participation in the international community.
He emphasised the need to step up international efforts to ensure stability and avert any escalation.
"Reform and development flourish in a secure and stable environment," he said.
General Mattis lauded Bahrain's tangible strides, hailing constructive initiatives to overcome the crisis.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia will use "all available options" to defend itself against Iranian "threats" that might trigger "unwanted military confrontation", its former intelligence chief Prince Turki Al Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud told a key security conference in Bahrain.
His comments came after Tehran demanded Riyadh rethink its offer to make up for any oil lost to world markets as a result of threatened curbs on Iranian exports.
