Major Events, Drag Racing, Drifting and Track Days

Weekly drag racing at Yas Marina Circuit and an enlarged Yas Racing School programme are key elements of a busier-than-ever winter calendar for the Abu Dhabi track. And drifting comes to the circuit for the first time with a February event featuring leading American drivers.

The Yas Marina Circuit winter calendar gets underway formally with the Formula 1TM Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on 12-14 November, and then takes off with a full schedule of major racing events, track days and Open Drag Racing nights on the drag strip.

Australian V8 Supercars will be returning to Yas in 2011 in a combined event with the GP2 Asia series on the weekend of 11-12 February. The acclaimed FIA GT1 sportscar series also returns on 26-27 March and the breathtaking sport of Formula Drift will make its debut on 25 February. UAE National Racing will feature at Yas on 16-17 December 2010 and again on 17-18 March. A new Speed Weekend, featuring Chevrolet Supercars, Porsche GT3s and Radicals, will take place on 8-9 April.

Drag racing features heavily in the new calendar with weekly opportunities for members of the public to test their own cars on the drag strip. The Yas Drag Racing Festival returns on 4-5 March, promising a larger field and another sub-four-second face-off between one of the circuit's two Top Fuel dragsters, driven by Rod Fuller, and a mystery overseas competitor.

Two special events are scheduled under the Yas Street Drag Racing banner on 10-11 and 17-18 December and the calendar includes a Pro Series with races on 14-15 January, 4-5 March, 1-2 April and 29-30 April.

The circuit aims to be busy seven days a week thanks to a series of 25 public track days and an expanded fleet of racing cars in the Yas Racing School. The soon-to-be-opened Yas karting track will offer five-day karting action from Tuesday to Saturday inclusive, with 40 karts available for rental.

After the 2010 Grand Prix in November, the track will host F1 young driver testing, a Pirelli tyre test for next season and then two weeks of GP2 testing. The highly popular Tuesday evening public cycling and running events - currently attracting 200 cyclists every week - will continue throughout the coming year.
