The National Games of China

china national gamesThe National Games of China which is also known as the All China Games is the most popular and premier sports event of China in national level. It generally includes around 33 sports including 28 sports in summer Olympics and four winter sports and Wushu as well. Wushu is China’s national sport, combines elements of Tai Chi, Kung Fu and other branches of martial arts that introduced in 2008 Olympic Games. In China National Games is held every four years in the country since 1975, when the Cultural Revolution was coming to an end.

In 2010 the 11th National Games was held from October 16 to 28 and is held in 17 cities for the overall benefits throughout Shandong province. The theme of the 11th Shandong Games was “Harmonious China, Everybody’s Games”. However, the biggest-ever National Games of 2010, which was participated by 10,991 athletes from 46 delegations, was severely affected by three doping scandals. However, the Chinese sport’s governing body has vowed a serious clampdown on doping those cheats. The next National Games will be held in northeast China's Liaoning province.

11th Jinan Olympic Games opening ceremony was announced by CPC Central Committee General Secretary and State President and CMC Chairman Hu Jintao, 16. Among those present at the ceremony are International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge, the national and regional sports friendship groups, and central and state leaders.

Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao announced the closing of the 11th National Games. All total 1241 medals were awarded. The host province of Shandong came first in the list with 63 gold 40 silver and 43 bronze medals. The games saw the return of champion Liu Xiang from injury for Olympic 110m hurdles. Swimmer Liu Zige too broke the world record in the women's 200 metres butterfly, taking 2 seconds off from the previous record.
