Jamaica attracts a number of tourists from all over the world. Besides just being an amazing sighteseeing, water sporting destionation it also offers a number of other indoor and outdoor sporting options to indulge and participate in. 1: Horseback Riding
Tour exotic forest trails or ride the wind along Jamaica's magnificent coastline on excellent mounts, available at a number of outstanding resort area stables and equestrian centers. Jamaican horses and racing personnel have made their mark overseas, and many horses bred on this fair island are exported to the islands of Barbados and Trinidad to improve their bloodstock lines. At any one given time, there are 2000 horses training for racing and race horses have become legends in song, such as the popular reggae tune “Long Shot kick the bucket”, immortalized by the Pioneers in 1968, about a horse who was far from a champion, but he had so much stamina and endurance that he ran 202 races, the most in local history, before dropping dead on the track.
2: Cricket
As a former British colony, Jamaica remains a bastion of one of the world's most eccentric games. You can avail a crash course on the language of Cricket and discover the world of silly mid-ons, maiden overs, mid-offs, bowlers and fielders. Jamaica's cricket season runs from February through April and you can watch great cricket at Sabina Park.
3: Polo
The sport of Polo was introduced to the island in 1882. Westerners, first saw a sport that originated in Persia 2,500 years ago, in the 19th century, when British soldiers, serving in Manipur, observed the national game. The British were establishing tea plantations in Manipur’s Cacher Valley, and five years later in 1859 the first European polo club was formed there. Polo came to Jamaica at about the same time when the sport was introduced to America. There are three main Polo clubs, St Ann Polo Club, which is one of the oldest playing clubs in the Western Hemisphere, Chukka Cove and Kingston Polo Club. Matches can be seen during Polo season from April through August on Thursday and Saturday afternoons at any one of these polo clubs.
4: Tennis
Most resorts offer fine courts, many lit for night play. Although nearly every tennis court in Jamaica is located on a resort, each one offers its own unique style or spectacular tropical view. A few Jamaican resorts are home to what are undeniably some of the most popular courts in the Caribbean. Resorts in Jamaica often staff their courts with highly skilled tennis pros. At three of Jamaica's top resorts—Tryall Club and Half Moon in Montego Bay and Sandals Grande Ocho Rios—sports fans should note that often in Jamaica, top tennis and golf spots go hand-in-hand. Tryall Club and Half Moon both offer world-class golf as well as tennis.
5: Golf
Golf in Jamaica attracts players from around the world. The Golf Courses in Jamaica offers exquisite club facilities, diversely challenging greens and spectacular settings. Jamaica boasts 12 beautiful Golf Courses on the island, for both the professional and amateur Golfers.
