For the intrepid amongst you, Guadeloupe is brimming with opportunities to flex your muscles. One should take several precautions while hiking through the tropical areas since there is always the chance of a severe downpour. |
Warm rain protection as well as waterproof hiking shoes is compulsory since the mountains of Guadeloupe can be cold and wet. Water for drinking and sun protection are also a must.
Carbet Waterfalls
These waterfalls can be accessed from Capesterre-Belle-Eau, in the village Saint-Sauveur. In about 1/2 an hour hike one can reach the second waterfall cascading down 110m. The trail is easy and very well taken care of. Well-trained hikers can further continue for 4 hours to the first waterfall, where the water runs down first for 115m and then another 15m.
For the third waterfall, the route is through Capesterre-Belle-Eau & Routhiers. The hike to the third falls is a little arduous.
La Maison de la Forêt (House of the Forest)
There are 3 easy trails ranging from 20 minutes to 1 hour, which run around the House of the Forest along the Route de la Traversée. Here one can explore the rain forest with its gigantic trees and roots, West Indian hardwood, tropical chestnut trees, ferns and creepers.
