Hiking Off the Beaten Path

Eastern Nature Trail
The Eastern Nature Trail is an exciting 3.5 miles of outstanding natural beauty along the east coast of St Lucia which stretches from Mandele to Praslin Bay.  While hiking through the well-maintained nature trail, you will witness the fury of the atlantic scultured rock cut platforms, sedimentary cliffs, stacks, arches and stony beaches.  Along this exciting trail, you are likely to see 38 species of Birds, three species of which are endemic to the island.   With exit points at the end of each mile, this is a practical hike for all nature lovers.

Forestiere Tropical Forest Trail
(Non-Strenuous)
The Forest trail will take you into the heart of the St Lucian countryside to a typical rural community of Forestiere.  An exhilarating hike takes you through dense tropical rainforest whilst the fascinating flora and fauna is pointed out to you.

Union Nature Trail
(Non-Strenuous)
Spend time with Nature on a looped trail which passes through a secondary dry forest in just about an hour.  Many tree species, which thrive here, are still used island wide.  Pretty birds can be spotted along the trail, including hummingbirds, finches, warblers.

Discover the unbelievable magic and wonders of the medicinal herb garden.  Bush medicines are becoming an increasingly popular form of alternative treatment.   To complement your trail experience, satisfy your curiosity with close-ups of some indigenous and a few exotic wildlife species in the Union Mini Zoo.  An Interpretation Centre provides information on endangered species, vegetation zones and the forest by night and day.  

The Gros Piton Nature Trail
The first half of the trail is for everyone to enjoy!  Departing from the Fond Gens Libre Community where the base of the trail winds around the mountain at a gradual slope. Ocean views and the village of Choiseul can be seen to the East.  However, the second half of the trail involves steep ascent of the Gros Piton Summit and is intended for the more adventurous, in fact the whole climb takes about four hours.
