Isle of man is just an hour by air from the UK; a leisurely ferry crossing from the British Isles takes less than 4 hours. Though tiny, this patch of green in the Irish Sea is dotted with many a golf course and is widely regarded as a golfers' paradise. |
Isle of Man features 8 golf courses of international standards, all situated at less than a 45 minute-drive from each other. The breathtaking views at these greens are sure to distract you from your game.
Ramsey
Situated to the North of the island, this golf club opened some hundred years ago and offers a superb range of amenities. The first hole here presents a real challenge, you will have to play against the prevailing wind and the third green is deceptively easy but very tricky.
King Edward Bay
This golf course is situated at the outskirts of the capital Douglas and affords some of the best views on the island. The springy mountain turf is quite unique to King Edward and there are some highly challenging holes.
Castletown
The golfing turf at Castletown was laid out in its current form by the golfing legend Mackenzie Ross in the early 1930s' and provides some of the purest golf links anywhere in the British Isles. Castletown golf club has held a number of tournaments including the PGA Cup matches against USA in 1979.
Mount Murray
One of the recent additions to the island’s golf courses, Mount Murray golfing club offers players a unique opportunity to play on a 18-hole championship course set in breathtaking scenery. The course comprises two loops of nine holes, with each hole presenting a hazard especially the 18th , which is a par five 534 yard hole requiring skill and accuracy.
Peel
The course at Peel is extremely varied. The holes cut through pine tree plantations pose natural hazards. The longest hole here, is the par 5 seventh but the most daunting is the par four drop legged 11th.
Rowany
Rowany golf club was founded in 1895 and can be reached by a steam train from Douglas. This 18-hole course has six testing par fours, two par threes and a par five fifth hole on the front line. The 7th and the 12th holes remain the most challenging of all.
Pulrose
Opened in 1891, Pulrose golf club is a pay and play course that offers a variety of frustrating holes notably the par three 17th and the superb 322 yard par four second hole.
Port St Mary
This is the only 9-hole playing turf on the island and it was designed in 1920 by the British Open Champion George Duncan. Well-designed and owned by Port St mary commissioners, the course holds in-house competitions every Saturday and Sunday.
