The extensive coral reef system surrounding the Turks and Caicos Islands makes these islands ideal for diving enthusiasts. The reef is 65 miles across and 200 miles long, with visibility up to 200 feet. There is an abundance of tropical flora and fauna, fish and other marine life. There is exceptional wall dicing starting in shallow turquoise water and dropping off into the deep blue. The reef is located close to the beach, making it easily accessible for beach diving. In addition to the marine life, divers can also explore the old and new shipwrecks found below the pristine waters.
Vast areas have been set aside as marine parks and fisheries reserves under the National Parks Ordinance. Mooring buoys have been established at all dive sites to avoid possible damage caused by anchors. Summer waters are warm enough for swimsuits and light wet suit protects, but in winter use of a 2 to 3mm wet suit is recommended. Diving equipment is available for rent from all dive operators, as well as lessons for non divers.
