Important dive sites in Fiji
Savusavu
This is located on the shore of a magnificent harbor in the shores of the island Vanua Levu. The diving area is so vast that most of the reefs of this area would have never seen a diver.
The underwater wonder world with walls, caves, corals and fish have made the island famous. Diving is not much demanding in Savusavu Bay.
Taveuni
This is known as the Garden Isle of Fiji. This features rainbow reefs and the Great white wall in the heart of Somosomo strait which is just a minutes away by boat from the mainland. The islands north of this have many impressive dive sites and the area is so vast that it is difficult even for the seasoned divers to cover the entire area. Kaimbu Island, located in splendid isolation form nearby land masses presents excellent water clarity with a variety of diving including soft corals, gogonia, hard coral etc.,
Pacific harbor
Around the island of Yamaha and Beqa barrier reef, the areas have earned the distinction of being one of the top five dive destinations in the world. A geologically active phenomenon wherein a volcano erupt frequently sending tons of nutrients to these parts of Fiji contributes to the profuse of coral growth and fish life in the region. The diving area has walls, tunnels, coral heads and undercuts ablaze with soft corals and large fish including sharks.
Coral coast
This begins 15 kms south of Nadi town. The dive sites here are vertical walls festooned with soft corals and gorgonia fans. This area is well suited for families as diving is incredibly accessible. A number of restaurants, shopping and excursions to historic sites are also available here.
Nadi, Mamanuca and Yasawa islands
This is very close to the International Airport area. Dive sites are available from the hotels or resorts and more commonly the destinations are the nearby reefs and islands. For those adventure loving souls a shark dive at the site known as the supermarket offers the right excitement. Visibility in these waters exceeds 35 meters. Colorful fishes, dolphins, sharks, manta rays, turtles and large pelagic fish are often encountered here.
