Diving and Snorkeling in Venezuelan Isles

The Venezuelan Isles are fast becoming a major dive destinations with sites found off Margarita, La Blanquilla, Los Testigos, Las Frailes and Los Roques. There is good snorkelling and diving off Cubagua on a sunken barge and a ferry with cars still inside. At Farallón, near Pampatar, there is an underwater religious statue, large brain coral, large sea fans and large fish, including barracuda, in about 12 m of water. La Macura is a rock patch where large, colourful parrotfish live in holes in boulders. Los Frailes, eight small islands northeast of Margarita has rich underwater life including moray eels, barracudas and oysters, and are ideal for diving.
