The isles of St. Kitts & Nevis offer some good snorkeling and scuba diving options. The islands offer a wealth of relatively new, untouched dive sites. The western or the Caribbean side of the island is well protected and visibility off the shores is usually in the 60 - 100 foot range.
Most dive sites are on this side of the islands, where the reef starts in shallow water and falls off to a depth of 100 ft. Between the two islands there is a shelf in only 25 ft of water which attracts lots of fishto the corals, sea fans and sponges. There is black coral off the southeast peninsula, coral caves, reefs and wrecks with abundant fish and other sea creatures of all sizes and colours.
There are several good reefs off St Kitts, that include Turtle Reef off Shitten Bay, Coconut Reef in Basseterre Bay and Pump Bay by Sandy Point, and they good for beginners to dive and snorkel. Several wrecks and other sites are actually shallow enough for good snorkelling although the very best snorkelling around St Kitts is only accessible by boat. There are opportunities for divers of all levels of experience, and most dive locations are within an easy boat trip from the shore.
Snorkelling off Oualie Beach, Nevis, is excellent and also good at Nisbett Beach and Tamarind Bay. Regulators, pressure gauges, and BCs are readily available on the islands.
Underwater props are generally unavailable for rental purposes, so divers are encouraged to bring along their own cameras, strobes, bottom timers, dive computers and gauges. There is no chamber in St. Kitts or Nevis, but there are chambers nearby in Puerto Rico and St. Croix.
