Some of the best dive sites in the Maldives include the Victory Wreck, Mushimasmingili Thila (Shark Thila), Guraidhoo Corner, Kuda Rah Thila (Broken Rock) and Banana Reef. |
With a few exceptions, all resorts have a fully equipped diving school. An internationally recognized PADI Open Water Diver certificate can be obtained after nine dives and theory lessons, which usually takes about a week.
The year-round temperature in the waters of Maldives is a constant 20°-30°C (68°-86°F), with the lagoons often reaching 32°C (90°F). The calmest seas and bluest skies are from May to November, when the winds are north-westerly and the currents outside the atolls run west to east at an average of twenty four meters (80 feet) a minute. The best underwater visibility occurs towards the end of the northwest monsoon, from March to April, when forty meters (130 feet) is normal, which may even rise to seventy meters (230 feet) down the coral edge and this is considered to be the best time to dive.

Snorkeling |

With a teeming variety of marine life at depths starting from one meter onwards, there is a sight for everyone, from waders on the beach to snorkellers on the reef. Snorkeling in the Maldives is common to all the resorts and almost all resort islands have a "house reef" which is literally a stone's throw away.
