Cruising in Bonaire

Surrounded by the sea on all sides, Bonaire is known the world over as a safe, cruiser-friendly country. Along the harbour in Kralendjik, the capital, a number of moorings are available for a modest daily fee. The moorings are always painted red.

For mooring assignments, cruisers are expected to contact the Harbour Marina. Aside from an anchorage located outside the hurricane belt, Bonaire has 2 full service marinas that can accommodate yachts of all sizes. The Harbour Village Marina is adjacent to the Harbour Village Resort in Bonaire.  Another marina is located quite close to the Plaza Resort. The two mooring hubs offer a multitude of facilities and are ideal for both short and long-term stays.

Upon reaching the anchorage at Kralendjik, cruisers are obliged to check in with the local Customs and Immigration; as anchoring is prohibited, cruisers can dingy to Karel's Bar and check in during business hours. A complete list of regulations is available at customs. All firearms, spear guns and similar weapons are required to be left with customs for reclaiming upon checking out.

Numerous services, including a sail shop and chandlery are available at the anchorage. Overseas cruisers supplement the island’s economy greatly. Apart from cruising, visitors can also indulge in sailing, windsurfing and fishing. Big game fishing has always been very popular in Bonaire; interested visitors can accompany local fishermen and net fish like wahoo, tuna, marlin and sailfish.

A number of local charter companies operate sea cruises at night with Thai dinners and snorkel sails. Below is a list of some of the leading cruise operators in Bonaire.
