The shores around the Turks and Caicos Islands, particularly South Caicos, are fertile fishing grounds. The Atlantic Blue Marlin is plentiful all year round and ranges in weight from 100 to 400 pounds. There are two annual fishing tournaments held here where fishing enthusiasts strive to beat the previous year’s record for the big game trophy. The common form of fishing is Bottom and reef fishing. The popular catch includes varieties of grouper, conch and snapper. Bonefish is found in the shallow flats and creeks in Provo. Summer months mean yellow fin and black fin tuna and Wahoo as well as the large hammerhead and tiger sharks. Between November and April sailfish and white marlin scout can be found while the Barracuda is available all year round.
Many tour operators also have fishing charters where they can take you to the deep waters for big game fishing. Most captains can also arrange to have you catch prepared according to you specifications in the many top class restaurants located on the islands. In order to charter a fishing expedition you need to attain a Visitor’s fishing license, which costs $15 for one month.
