Landmarks of Central India

sachiSanchi is a small village located 46 km north east of Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh. It is the location of several Buddhist monuments dating from the 3 rd century to 12 th century. The Great Stupa’ at Sanchi was originally commissioned by the Emperor Ashoka in the 3 rd century. Its nucleus was a simple hemispherical brick structure built over the relics of Buddha. It was listed as the World Heritage Site in 1989. 
 
khajrahoKhajuraho is a village in the district of Chhatarpur in Madhya Pradesh. The Khajuraho group of monuments has been listed as the World Heritage Site in 1986. The village boasts of the largest group of medieval Hindu and Jain temples famous particularly for non-religious art depicted in the form of sculptures on the walls of the temple.
