Towns & cities of Isle of Man

Isle of Man is dotted with many quaint towns and cities that are reminiscent of the bygone Celtic age. Aside from Douglas, which is the capital city, prominent townships on the island include Castletown, Ramsey and Port St Mary.

Castletown

Castletown, ancient capital of Mann for several centuries, is located at the edge of a long extinct and almost untraceable volcano. In recent times a number of commercial activities based on the Finance and Industrial Sectors have been based here. There is a picturesque harbour here and the impressive Castle Rushen too.

Cregneash

Cregneash lies at the southern extremity of Isle of Man. Located here are the Mull or Meayll Circles, a group of six chamber tombs, and the Manx Open Air Folk Museum that has a group of thatched cottages with their original furnishing restored. You can enjoy the rugged environs of this area by climbing the cliffs that fall away steeply to the sea. Across the Calf Sound lies the Calf of Man, a bird reserve with a large population of rare seabirds and seals. The sanctuary is open except during the nesting season and can be reached by boat from Port Erin.

Ramsey

Ramsey is located in the northern part of the country and has suffered much destruction across the centuries. Presently, it is a flourishing market town and one of the prime commercial centres of the country. The upcoming new industries ensure that Ramsey is a key town for commerce on the Isle of Man.
