The Sandy Beaches of Antigua

There are 365 sandy beaches in Antigua, and most of the beaches rest inside the calm, protected waters of the island's Caribbean side. All the beaches are open to the public, and some times it do get confusing to gain access to the one according to your taste, to help you a little with it here’s a brief introduction to the sultry beaches of Antigua.

1: Northwest Coast

For a completely smooth resort beach experience Dickenson Bay and Runaway Bay are the best, located along the island's developed northwestern coast. The beaches most convenient to St. John's are Fort James, a locally-popular public beach, and Deep Bay. Another beach Galley Bay is famous among surfers during the winter months. The series of four crescent beaches at Hawksbill are also very popular and one of them is a nude beach.

2: Southwest and South Coast

The beaches of the hilly southwest corner of Antigua are less developed compared with the northwestern coast. But still there are several beaches in this area especially for those who are looking for some wildered seclusion. On the road that winds along this coast are Fryes Bay, Darkwood Beach, and the beaches around Johnsons Point. Rendezvous Bay and especially Doigs Beach, both located on the central southern coast. Pigeon Point, near English Harbour Town, offers an ultimate peaceful experience.

3: East Coast

On the southeast corner of the island is Half Moon Bay, now a National Park and a good choice for a family outing. Long Bay is located on the eastern most point of the island and it is another good choice for families, as it is completely protected by its reef.

Barbuda

The island of Barbuda is also rich with smooth coastline edged with long pink and white sand beaches and protected by barrier reefs. These pristine pink beaches of the southwestern shore stretch as far as ten miles without interruption. The beaches on the eastern shore, facing the Atlantic, are a litte rougher, although they are outstanding for beachcombing.</
