The Palm is one of the world’s most iconic development projects. A trilogy of man-made, palm-shaped islands, The Palm Jumeirah, Jebel Ali and Deira are three landmarks located off the coast of Dubai, and are destined to elevate the city’s position as a premier global tourist destination. Through the vision of H.H General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Defense Minister the Palm Dubai became a reality. Developed by Nakheel- the uniquely focused property development company, the Palm Islands Dubai is the most exclusive property development ever.
The idea of the Palm first came out in May 2002, and ever since it gained popularity and has also been named 'The Eighth Wonder of the World'. The Palm Islands have helped increase Dubai's shoreline by 120km (72 miles). It has also helped to create a large number of residential, leisure, and entertainment areas. The three islands, The Palm Jumeirah, The Palm Jebel Ali and The Palm Deira are all being built in the shape of date palm trees and consist of a trunk; a crown with fronds; and a surrounding crescent island - the back of which forms the breakwater.

The islands are accessible by 300-metre (990-feet) bridges from the mainland or boat to two marinas, while the main causeway is to have a monorail system, which is currently underway. The project is being built on 80 million cubic meters (2.8 billion cubic feet) of land dredged from the approach channel to the emirate's Jebel Ali port, an operation that deepen the channel to 17 metres (56 feet). Through the Palm islands Dubai is emerging from regional players to leaders in tourism development focused on modernizing and expanding tourism infrastructure to attract more tourists.
The sale of The Palm Island properties (villas and apartments) are done on freehold basis, entitling locals and expats the right to sell, lease or rent their property at their own discretion.
