1: Bell Museum & Graßmayr Bell Foundry 

The "Bell Museum" comprises of a Bell Foundry, Bell Museum, Sound Room and watching a bell actually being cast. This interesting blend at the Bell museum Innsbruck also received the Austrian Museum Award.

 

The Bell Foundry:

The bell foundry is the region of the Grassmayr Family that has been casting bells for the whole world for 14 generations with 400 years of experience, history and tradition to build upon. In the Casting Hall, bell forms of loam are modeled in accord with the age-old customs of traditional craftsmanship.

 

The Bell Museum:

From Ore to the Bell, This part of the Museum shows the complete process of making bells and their historical evolution in western civilization.

 

The Sound Room:

The sound room offers an acoustical adventure through the tones of bells become visible, audible and palpable.

Guided Tours can be arranged.

2: City Tower Gallery 

The city tower gallery is a beautiful public gallery space with distinctive changing exhibitions especially promoting the young and upcoming Tirolean artists.  Stadtturmgalerie has been exhibition venue of the Tiroler Künstlerschaft Artist Association since 1971. The gallery was given a complete facelift between 1999 and spring 2002. Stadtturmgalerie focuses on the presentation of works from the field of new media.

 

Admission is free!

3: Golden Roof 

The Golden Roof is Innsbruck´s greatest tourist attraction, built by Archduke Friedrich IV in the early 15th century as the residence of the Tirolean sovereigns. The Golden Roof is the three-story balcony on this house at the heart of Innsbruck´s Old Town. The late Gothic oriels are capped with 2,600 gold-plated copper tiles. It was constructed for Emperor Maximilian I to serve as a royal box where he could sit in luxury and enjoy tournaments in the square below.

4: Imperial Palace 

The Imperial Palace was erected by Archduke Siegmund the Rich in late Gothic style around 1460. It was rebuilt in the Baroque style (but with rococo detailing) between 1754 and 1773 on orders of Empress Maria Theresa. The Palace, flanked by a set of domed towers, is a fine example of Baroque secular architecture. The Imperial Apartments consist of 25 state apartments dating from the 18th and 19th century and the Giants´ Hall (the Alps most lavish banqueting hall).

5: Museum of Tyrolean Folk Art 

Museum of Tyrolean Folk Art was built between 1553 - 1563 as monastery.  Since 1929 it has been housing a museum, comprising of objects from the Old Tirol with its Ladin valleys around the Dolomites and the Trentino region. The important ethnic collection features lounges, furniture, costumes, farming tools, masks and nativity scenes from the Alpine regions. It is said to Europe’s most beautiful Local Heritage Museums. The wide range of exhibits gives a good insight into the culture of the country and the life of its people.

6: Ottoburg 

A Gothic residential tower built by the city wall in the 15th century. Today nothing remains of the moat but remnants of the wall near the Ottoburg. Commissioned by Maximilian I, the Castle was named after the last Duke of Andechs, Otto VIII. The gray facade is brightened up by red and white shutters.

7: Triumphal Arch 

The south end of Innsbruck´s main artery, Maria-Theresien Street, is spanned by a Triumphal Arch, modeled after those in Rome. Empress Maria Theresa ordered it built in 1765 with a twofold purpose: To honor the marriage of her son, and to mourn the death of her beloved husband. One side of the Arch symbolizes the joyful aspect of the event, the other side the sadness.
