Variarata National Park in Sogeri is a 30 minute drive into the hills behind Port Moresby. The park was established to conserve the natural plant communities and animals in the wild and protect the scenic areas and the Koiari Culture.
Moitaka Wildlife Sancturary in Moitaka, is situated near the Jacksons International Airport on the outskirts of Port Moresby. The sanctuary houses a mini zoo with native birds and animals.

Horseshoe Reef Marine Park in Port Moresby was established to conserve the rare marine species found only in Horseshoe Reef. There are research facilities here along with other educational and recreational provisions. |
The Kokoda Trail crosses the borders of Central and Oro Provinces and has been granted the National Park status for the preservation and protection of the historical 90 kilometre track.
Mt Gahavisuka in Goroka was established as a National Park to maintain various species of mountain orchids and rhododendrons in their natural habitat.
Cape Wom International Memorial Park in Wewak is established on the site where the Japanese surrendered on 13th September 1945. A park is a memorial dedicated to preserving the remnants of the Japanese troops who died there.
Mcadam, Waif in Bulolo, Morobe Province was established to protect the remaining untouched Arancarta forest. The rare Hoop and Klinkii Pine varieties are still found in the Bulolo/Wau areas.
Jimi Valley National Park in Banz, Western Highlands Province was established in 1986 to preserve rainforest area.
Namanatabu Historic Reserve in the Central Province was established to preserve the military design of the area and other significant historical relics.
