Nadi is located in the Nadi Bay on the Western side of Viti Levu approximately 40 km from the city of Lautoka towards Sigatoka town and 80km from the town of Sigatoka. |
Nadi was a sugar town that has gradually transformed into a tourism-oriented town after Nadi Airport was declared the first International Airport. Nadi established in 1972 houses a population of 15,000 within its area of 602.4 hectors. Nadi is the gateway to Fiji through its International Airport.
It is the focal point of onshore and offshore resorts and offers a host of recreational avenues to visitors along with a range of accommodation to suit all budgets.
Near the airport are excellent hotels and resorts including the renowned Mamanuca and Yasawa islands. Cruises to the splendid blue lagoons of the Yasawas are based at Lautoka, less than 20 kilometres (14 miles), from the airport.
Denarau Island, featuring two luxurious resorts has a championship golf course and a marina that is a base for scuba diving trips and for more than a dozen cruises and island excursions. A famous jetboat thrill a minute ride, a superb tennis facility; more than ten restaurants and a large beachfront with a full range of water sports including sailing, water skiing, parasailing canoeing and windsurfing is only 20 minutes from the airport by road.
You can visit the pristine and charming beaches in the vicinity, or enjoy boatrides to outer islands. The thrilling jet rides and paradise balloons are quite adventurous and memorable experiences. Nadi town also offers other exciting options like helicopter rides, sea planes, water skiing, parasailing and snorkeling.
A striking feature is the Hindu temple at the southern end of town. Moreover visitors to Nadi can tour the outstanding beaches, villages, orchid gardens, cultural centres, and cruise to islands and along rivers to remote villages. Yaqona ceremony, traditional entertainment and a village meal are all part of the experiences in these villages.
Nadi town is a popular shopping destination. Jewellery, cameras, high fidelity audio equipment, clothes handicrafts artifacts, souvenir items, original artworks are among the many items on offer.
Nadi Township can be reached by buses which have regular services from 5.30am to 11pm. Taxi and carrier services are also available.
