1: The Military Heritage Centre
Gibraltar has had a strong military history with several sieges, the most famous being the Great Siege of 1783. That had instigated the development of Gibraltar's military defence began which continued till the Second World War.


The Military Heritage Centre is housed in one of the many Batteries found in the Rock. This Battery, known as Princess Caroline's Battery, is named after King George II's third daughter and was built in 1732. The back chamber, known as the Memorial Chamber, is to honour and remember all those men and women who have over the ages dedicated themselves to the service of the Nation in the Armed Forces. The Roll Call of all the Regiments that have served in Gibraltar since 1704 together with the ensigns of the Senior Service and the Royal Air Force can be found here.

2: The Gibraltar Museum
Situated in the Moorish Bath House, the Gibraltar museum holds a vast display of artefacts, weapns, medals, ceramics, coins and postage stamps, along with the collection of bones , stones tools and other items of immense archaeologial value. There is also a mahnificently detailed model of the Rock completed in 1868. The original city of Gibraltar founded in 1160 by Abd-al-Mumin would have included both private and public baths, but these, situated in the Gibraltar Museum, date from 1333 and are contemporary with the Moorish Castle Tower of Homage.


'Gibraltar, A City Under Siege' Exhibition

This building, dating back to the beginning of the 18th Century, is one of the first buildings ever constructed by the British in Gibraltar. This was originally considered to be a place for preparing and storing ammunition. This area is known as Willis's Magazine. The graffiti on the walls dating back to as early as 1726 is one of the most interesting features here. In this area, you can also see the water cisterns used in those days together with the drainage system, part of which has been restored. . The numerous exhibits here depict scenes of how the civilian population lived and how the first British settlers of Gibraltar had to cope with life. The area also offers some spectacular views of the Rock, the City and the Bay of Gibraltar.
