Lovely beaches of Barbados

Barbados is blessed with some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, with soft white sand and crystal clear turquoise water. Combined with Barbados' fabulous sunny weather, activities such as sun tanning, swimming, beach volleyball, jet skiing are possible here.


Accra/Rockley Beach

This is one of the longest and widest stretches of beach on the south coast and is hugely popular among locals and visitors alike. Waves are moderate here without too much undertow and the beach is usually busy and active. The beach also has vendors and public changing facilities.

 

Bath

Bath lies on the Atlantic side of the island and is a very safe beach for swimming. There is usually a lifeguard and the facilities include parking, changing, picnic and eating. The waves here are medium to small and there is a slight undertow close to shore, the most suited area is, however, off to the left of the beach bar with calm and clear waters.

 

Bathsheba

Bathsheba is picturesque little fishing village in Barbados and is the surfer’s paradise. The waters here have gained popularity with the surfers die to the presence of big and powerful waves and perennial trade winds. The area known as the "Soup Bowl" is the favorite destination for this water sport. The pools in the reefs and the cool breeze also provide an excellent opportunity for simply wading. Several restaurants and hotels are also present in the area.

 

Bottom Bay

This bay, surrounded by rugged cliffs, is located just north of the Sam Lord's Castle. It is an isolated, wide sandy beach lined with coconut palms. The waters here are crystal clear with medium waves and have a slight undertow. It is an ideal spot for picnics

 

Brighton Beach

Brighton is a long stretch of beach with only minor breaks of rock or reef. This hugely popular beach has calm waters most of the year with very little undertow. However the sea urchins in some areas near the reefs can be a problem.

 

Church Point

This is a clean and sheltered beach with calm waters and no undertow. It is a good beach for snorkeling. The urchins to the far right reef close to shore here can be a problem. This beach overlooks the Heron Bay House, with chandeliers in the trees and the looming coral stone house.


Crane Beach

This is a spectacular beach near one of the prettiest and oldest hotels on the island. The big waves here make it good for body surfing, but in the cove on the left there is safe swimming close to shore.


Carlisle Bay

Without doubt Barbados' most important bay. Not only is it such a picturesque spot, but also rich in history. This historic bay is located a mile south of the island’s capital city, Bridgetown, and was named after the Earl of Carlisle. Carlisle Bay is great for swimming and is a haven for scuba diving. From the Bay Street Esplanade, you will get a breathtaking view of the Bay and if you look to your right, you can see Bridgetown.

 

 

Cattlewash

Cattlewash is the longest beach on the island. It was named so as it was the bathing spot in the earlier days for herds of cattle that were shepherded down the hills from neighboring villages. Cattle can still be seen in the hilly area. This rough and rugged beach is quite popular and ideal for seaside relaxation. This secluded beach is several miles long with strong waves and undertow. There is a lifeguard station on the beach, so ask the lifeguards where it is safe to swim. The scenic environs here make it ideal for picnics.

 

Foul Bay

Foul Bay is one of the beaches which make up the rugged St Philip coast and is considered one of St Philip's most beautiful beaches. Located in the south eastern parish of St Philip and is about 10 minutes away from the Grantley Adams International Airport. The beach is long and majestic cliffs tower at both ends of the beach. As you walk the beach you will find numerous beautiful sea shells that are great for collecting. Foul Bay is also great place to get sea grapes. Several picnic benches are located under the shade and there is a shower in the open where you can shower off.
