Lautoka is located to the western side of Viti Levu, the largest island in Fiji and is only 25km away from Nadi International Airport. |
The city is surrounded with the blue Pacific Ocean on the western side and green gold sugar cane together with pine trees on the other.Commonly known as the sugar city, Lautoka has been the base of sugarcane industry of Fiji.
Apart from this there are a number of other industries such as timber, pine chips, garment, distillery, brewery, jewellery, blending, steel, fishing, hatchery, domestic items, paints, and building.
Lautoka receives a moderate climate all the year round with beautiful clear blue skies. The city covers an area of 1600 hectares and has a population of about 50,000. The tourist destinations are Abaca, island resorts, handicraft markets, duty free shops and a wonderful marina at Vuda Point, Lautoka. Lautoka city has a very large hospital, with emergency services open round-the-clock.
The shopping centre is conveniently located in the central city area along Vitogo Parade, Naviti Street and Yasawa Street. The city has a very wide range of shops ranging from retail to wholesale for food, clothing, duty free items, sporting equipment, medicines, tailoring, drapery, video rental, liquor outlets and many more.
The various recreational facilities of this region are Golf, Soccer, Rugby, Cricket, and Hockey. The city also has three cinema houses pool tables and children’s play centers. The city's annual major festival, Sugar Festival is held during the month of September each year.
