1: Mediterranean Conference Centre This building, constructed in 1574 under Grand Master Jean de la Cassiere, was originally the hospital or "Sacra Infermeria" of the Order of St John. It attained fame as one of the foremost hospitals of the period in Europe where food was served by the Knights themselves on silver plates. |
The specimens of the same, together with ceramic pharmacy jars, are displayed in the National Museum of Fine Arts. Malta was awarded the "Europa Nostra Award" upon the successful restoration and conversion of this structure into a first-call conference centre in 1976. The 161 meters long Exhibition Hall, formerly the Great Ward of the hospital, is probably one of the longest halls in Europe. The main conference hall, seating 1,400 people was destroyed by fire in 1987 and has since been rebuilt. A 40 minute audiovisual show, the Malta Experience, screened here encompasses 5,000 years of Maltese history.
2: Sliema St. Julians Paceville
Sliema, together with the neighbouring St. Julian's and Paceville, form the largest and most modern resort in Malta. It includes a large residential area and a 3 km long sea front walkway that is one of the most frequented spots on the island. The Inland Sea and Azure Window in Dwejra, in the southwest of Gozo is a secluded pebbly bathing pool with crystal clear water and cliffs hanging over it.

3: Palace of the Grand Masters This late 16th Century structure contains portraits of the Grand Masters of the Order and European monarchs, furniture, and other works of art. The main hall is decorated with frescoes by Perez and d'Aleccio that depict episodes from the Great Siege and the Tapestry Chamber displays a unique collection of Gobelin Tapestries. The decoration on the ceiling of the corridors is by Nicolo Nasoni. Many of the State apartments are decorated with friezes depicting episodes from the history of the Order. |

4: Palazzo Falzon
Popularly known as the Norman House is a fine medieval building. It is situated at Villegaignon Street, and has been donated to the nation by its owners. The Bastion gives you the best vantage point for a panoramic view of most of the Island
5: The Hypogeum
This is an ancient underground monument dating back to 2,400 BC. Lying 12 metres below street level, it has a system of caves, and passages and cubicles cut into the stone.
