Guided Tours are available on the inhabited and some of the uninhabited islands. Taxi tour guides can show visitors the key historical sites on Grand Turk and all of the other islands. One of the most popular walks is along Duke Street and Front Street on Grand Turk from Guinep House home of the Turks and Caicos National Museum. Other popular trails are used on Salt Cay, which has been recommended by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, and the Crossing Place Trail recently opened which follows an old trail along the dramatic shoreline of Middle Caicos to North Caicos. You can also watch the craftsmen at work in the settlements of Bambarra and Lorimers on Middle Caicos. Other attractions include Haulover plantation ruins, Sir Lorimer’s grace and the village of Conch Bar.
Boat Building
Sailing boats on the islands have always been made by hand, using wood cut from the local forests. In Middle Caicos two boats are built each year. This traditional method of construction is on display here, with the largest construction being of a boat sized 28 feet.
