Fascinating Churches in Jersey

There are twelve parishes in Jersey and all have their own church. Dating back to several years, these old and ancient churches make for a very interesting and fascinating visit.

St Matthew's (Glass) Church
Located in Millbrook, St Aubin's Road in St Lawrence, this church has glasswork including the font, altar rail, cross and pillars. This creation by René Lalique of Paris is considered to be amongst his greatest works.

St Brelade's Church and Fishermen's Chapel

Overlooking the golden sweep of St Brelade's Bay in St Brelade, the nave and chancel of the Church date back to the Norman times. The nearby Fishermen's Chapel dates back to around the 12th century and has some good murals that belong to the 14th and 15th century.

St Helier's Church

This church located in St.Helier is named after the town's patron saint, a hermit who lived on the rocky islet where Elizabeth Castle is built. Parts of the church date from the 11th century. Major Peirson, who defeated the French when they last invaded in 1781, is also buried here.

St. Peter's Parish Church
Designed by local artists, this church has a series of stained glass windows that depict scenes from Jersey Life. "Occupation and Liberation", "Jersey Airport", "A Jersey Harvest" as well as several covering religious scenes, all complimenting the Victorian stained glass already within the church.
