Enjoy the waters off Dominica

Fishing
Dominica’s off-shore is calm and has a balmy temperature, which makes it ideal for fishing.  Fishing is mainly done on the Leeward side.

Fishes are found in abundance, like Bonito, Jacks and Small Tuna.  Others varieties that are found in its waters are Wahoo Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna and Dolphins. The Blue Marlin, of around 200-700 pounds, bites the bait during September and November.

Dolphins and Dorado’s are around 15-50 pounds and are found during March-May or September-December.  Wahoo is 15-50 pounds and is found during March / April.  The Yellowfin Tuna is up to 50 pounds and bites the bait during November / December.

The two productive banks for fishing are Macouba, which is 12 miles off southeast of Dominica and 5 miles off the North Coast of Guadeloupe Channel.

Visitors can hire boats with fishing kits at US$ 400 – US$ 600, which allows up to 6 anglers. The numerous rivers on the island also offer a splendid opportunity for fishing.

Kayaking
Kayaking is another very popular water sport.  Sea kayaks can be hired at US$ 11 per hour, US$ 26 for half a day and US$ 42 per day, along with life jackets and instructions at Soufriere Bay and Pointe Michel.

One can stop at a secluded cove near Pointe Guignard for snorkeling.  There is a spectacular view of soft and hard corals at Scotts Head.  Passing through the beaches in Mero, Salisbury, region of Macoucherie and Layou, it finally reaches Pointe Michel.
