Eco-tours of Turks and Caicos Islands

From mangroves to bio-diversity and ecology of the under water world, the Eco tour of the Turks & Caicos Islands is an experience not to be missed. Each island has its distinct wildlife and fauna. Sparsely populated and so far unspoiled, the islands and their turquoise waters are a unique haven for wildlife.

Marine Turtles, migrating whales, schools of wild dolphins and a variety of rare birds are found in the area. Flamingo Pond on North Caicos provides an excellent chance to watch these pink birds in their natural habitat. The nature trails of Middle Caicos take you through conch bars and caves, making the hike educational with the help of expert guides.

1: Crossing Place Trails
Once a trading path, islanders walked to the end of the trail near Pine Barrel Landing and wade over to North Caicos when the tide was low. The beaches along the trail collect large amounts of flotsam and jetsam, including the occasional message in the bottle.

2: Jo-Jo the Dolphin
Jo-Jo the Atlantic Bottlenose dolphin is considered the national treasure of the Islands and has lived in the shallow waters since 1980. He is one of the few dolphins that voluntarily interacts with human in its natural environment and has become a powerful symbol of nature conservation.

3: Rock Iguana
This is a shy and harmless reptile found in the uninhabited cays away like Little Water Cay. The small island is a refuge for the iguana and has a winding boardwalk that circles the island, providing easy viewing access. Long ago these large lizards were found on nearly all the islands, but the introduction of a farming culture based on livestock and domesticated animals has driven away the Rock Iguana.
