Churches in Aruba

Santa Anna Church
This church in the village of Noord on the north coast was founded in 1766, rebuilt in 1831 and later in 1886. The present stone structure was erected in 1916 by Father Thomas V Sadelhoff, whose portrait can be seen on the twelfth station of the Cross. The church has a heavily carved neo-Gothic oak altar, pulpit and communion rails. Its high vaulted ceiling and stained glass windows make the church light & airy and quite popular for weddings. Services are held Mon, Wed and Fri at 1830, Sat at 1900 and Sun at 0730 and 1800.

Chapel of Alto Vista
Near the village of Noord on the north coast, a winding road reaches the Chapel of Alto Vista. This first chapel of Aruba, also known as the “Pilgrims Church”, was built by the Spanish & Indians. The present structure dates back to 1952 and is on the site of the chapel built by the Spanish missionary, Domingo Antonio Silvester in 1750. This tiny and bright yellow chapel presents quite a spectacular view overlooking the sea and Aruba’s countryside.

California Lighthouse ("Hudishibana")
The old stone California lighthouse is popularly named for the offshore wreck of the famous ship, "California." Perched on a high seaside elevation, the lighthouse is one of Aruba’s scenic attractions and offers a picturesque view of the island's western coastline of sandy beaches. There is a restaurant nearby that offers refreshments by day and fine dining at night. The desolate northwestern tip of the island is known as "Hudishibana" and features some of the island's most spectacular scenery characterized by large rolling sand dunes "California Dunes” and rocky coral shorelines. <
