Caves of Belize

These natural wonders vary in terms of their accessibility and exploration difficulty. They provide a wholesome adventure with caving activities like hiking, wading through the water, floating in an inner tube, canoeing, climbing rock formations, rapelling, and squeezing through narrow openings. The necessary equipment for these activities is easily available along with drinking water, light snacks, and the services of an experienced caving guide.


Rio Frio Cave is located in the Mountain Pine Ridge area of the Cayo District.

St. Herman's Cave is a part of the Caves Branch Cave System and the Blue Hole National Park alongside the Hummingbird Highway.

Inland Blue Hole is a magnificent sinkhole in the middle of the jungle and proves to be great place for a swim and a picnic.

Che Chem Ha is a cave located on private property near Benque Viejo Town. The Morales Family, discoverers of this cave, are the current managers too. The cave contains several pots and shards, and secret chambers continue to be uncovered today. These caves bear evidence of ancient Maya rituals, including pots used to store food and skeletal remains of people offered as sacrifices to the gods.

 

Ben Loman's Cave is located near the village of Gales Point Manatee and is accessible by boat from the Manatee lagoon. From here, a short hike across the savanna will bring you these caves.

Blue Creek Cave is located up the river from Blue Creek Village in Toledo.

Barton Creek Cave is located near Barton Creek Village in the Cayo District. It contains pottery and skeletal remains.

Caves Branch Cave System is located along the Hummingbird Highway in the Cayo District. Caves include Footprint, Waterfall, and Petroglyph, named because of ancient rock drawings left by the Mayas.

Cebeda is believed to be the largest cave in Belize and all of Central America and is located along the Guatemala/Belize border in the Chiquibul Forest. The size of the cave has not yet been affirmed because much of its caverns still remain unexplored.

Aktun Tunichil Muknal Cave is located in the Cayo District and contains many skeletal remains.

Manatee Cave System, mainly unexplored, is located along Manatee Lagoon.
