RSSCas-en-Bas is a small settlement on the east coast of the island and has a series of secluded beaches that are good and safe to enjoy a private swim.
Located near the Gros Islet, a turn off the coastal highway will bring you here where the road ends at the ocean. You can walk to Cas-en-Bas in about an hour or travel by car. During the rainy season, 4WD vehicle is recommended.
The beach at the end of the main road is lovely an alluring with long and wide stretch of sands with some shady spots under the trees. An excellent reef off the coast in the rough waters of the Atlantic makes the beach marvellous for swimming.
The beach will most likely not be crowded and a small beach bar here is occasionally open. Ten minutes' walk north from here along a trail that hugs the rocky, cactus-strewn coastline will bring you to a more private and secluded spot.
Secret Beach is a smaller, very private stretch of white sand sheltered by sloping hills and volcanic cliffs. Walking north past an open field for few more minutes brings you to Donkey Beach, an isolated spot of golden sand. It takes around thirty minutes to walk to the beach and the area remains isolated, you're most likely to come across only fishermen working their nets.
A half-hour walk south of Cas-en-Bas along the rugged and unmarked coastal path brings you to the beach at Anse Lavoutte, favoured by leatherback turtles as a secluded spot for egg-laying between March and July. You can make arrangements with the turtle watches organized at Grande Anse, a few kilometres further south to watch these turtles.
