Captivating Ajman

Ajman, the smallest of the seven sheikhdoms of the United Arab Emirates, is known as the ‘Bride of the Emirates'. The Ajman Museum

Established in the year 1981, Ajman Museum could be found located inside a fortress which was built during the 18th century. Ajman Museum has been the palace of the ruler of Ajman till 1970, after which it was converted as the primary police station. The Museum is the abode of exquisite manuscripts, archaeological artefacts, old weaponries as well as various other treasures which were owned by the rulers of Ajman. The place is a true reflection of the rich heritage and traditional life of the Emirates.

Dhow Yard

Dhow Yard, the most remarkable attraction and world's biggest boat building yard, captures the attention of all the tourists visiting Ajman. It is the biggest yard in the Emirates that builds dhows.

Dhow, originally a traditional Arabian boat, had served the people involved in trade, during war as well as for other maritime activities. The larger dhows had almost 30 crews, while the smaller ones had just 12. These are vessels that navigate across the oceans, developed with the help of traditional tools. There is no blueprint for these vessels, but the information is handed over through generations.

You will be left astonished if you see the way these huge dhows are being built manually.  So, be a witness to the mind blowing experience by paying visit to the Ajman Dhow Yard.

Mowaihat

A place of archaeological prominence, Mowaihat is an interesting destination for people who love history and artefacts. The circular tomb that carries the architectural styles of Umm al-Nar period has a diameter of 8.25 m and is as old as 2000 BC - 2500 BC.

The excavations conducted at this historically rich site have paved way for the extraction of numerous artefacts including ceramic vessels with paintings, soft stones, various kinds of beads, two stamp seals, some copper implements - all these belonging to Umm al-Nar period.

People who wish to widen their knowledge on history of Ajman should visit this place.

Other Attractions

There are two other places which are worth seeing while you are in Ajman. The bird lovers can visit the salt-flats located near Shaikh Zayed Street, near to Al Hamriya. One can see the flamingos, sitting in the nests located among mangroves.

Yet another place is Iranian souks. This is a good shopping destination for excellent household articles. You can do your shopping at Pink Palace.

Do not forget to enjoy the captivating beauty of the powdery-white sand beach located along Persian Gulf Coast.

Ajman is the home to two inland enclaves - Masfut, an agricultural village, is situated at a distance of 110km from the city on mountains and Manama which is about 60 km from the city. These places are the abodes of nature's beauty that leave you dazzled and allow you to enjoy tranquillity.
