The endless coastline of Puerto Rico is home to some of the bets beaches of the world. The size of the beaches varies as does the landscape, from white sandy dunes of Isabela to the black volcanic soil of Punta Santiago. Seaside activity around the beaches also varies from the leisurely shallow waters of Luquillo to the boisterous surfs of Rincon.
Isla Verde
This is a series of beaches stretching for miles behind the posh resorts of San Juan. The beach truly comes alive on the weekends when people from every where stream on to the shore for a day of relaxation, sun, beach volleyball, picnics and family gatherings. Many hotels and restaurants have bars and eateries adjacent to the beach. Parasailing, body surfing, jet skiing, and water skiing are offered by the seaside shops here.
Shacks
This beach is part of the sandy white beaches of the Isabela sand dunes, at the western tip of the country, outside of Rincon city. The beach enjoys trade wind speeds of 15 to 18 knots and is considered a premium spot for wind surfing, wave jumping and kite surfing during the winter months. The rest of the year, Shacks is the ideal tropical setting for shell collecting and sun bathing. Diving and snorkeling are available at Jobos Beach just down the road.
Luquillo
Luquillo Beach is the most popular spot among Puerto Ricans and tourists on the east coast, decorated with an array of multi-colored kiosks that offer food and drink. A long golden crescent of sand lined by coconut trees and misty rainforest mountains provide a dramatic backdrop. The offshore reef keeps the waters calm for family access.
