Machico
Located near the Airport, the beautiful bay of Machico has a wonderful beach and facilities for both swimming and sunbathing. Also made of stones, as almost every beach in Madeira Island, this beach is the favourite spot for locals in the summer. There is also a bar and a diving centre in the area.
Porto Moniz
The main attraction of this village is undoubtedly the natural bathing pools, which lie between bizarre lava rocks and are filled by the tide with crystal clear water. It is also known for its beauty, and are perfect for relaxing, swimming, sunbathing.
Praia Formosa
Praia Formosa lies in the capital Funchal, just 10 minutes drive from the downtown area and offers visitors three small sand beaches. In the summer, this beach attracts all kinds of sea lovers, not only because of the sea and sun, but also because of the sports activities, contests and nightlife that it offers.
Barreirinha
The Barreirinha Complex is located at the end of the Old Part of the Town. It has a small swimming pool for children and sea access for those who can swim. Barreirinha manages to attract lots of people, especially those who live close by.
Lido
The Lido swimming pools are, probably, the most famous bathing complexes in Funchal. With big and small seawater swimming pools, fresh every day, it also has sea access for those who prefer the natural waves of the ocean. The Lido is the most well known bathing zone of Funchal and it offers lots of services such as hotels, bars, pubs and restaurants.
Galo Mar
Galo Mar is part of the first tourism complex created in the Caniço area. Here you can appreciate the seawater swimming pool, with fresh water every day, the diving station, and the elevator with outside view. You will also find a very nice fish restaurant, a boutique, a mini market, various shops and a café where you can end the afternoon with tea or coffee and cake whilst enjoying a beautiful sunset.
