Jersey has some excellent beaches and people from all over the world come here to enjoy the safe swimming, surfing and other water sports that these waters offer or simply to enjoy seaside walks or the sun on the golden sand. All these beaches are clean, safe and well maintained with all necessary facilities and the waters off the coast too maintain a strict cleanliness standard.
Belcroute
This is a small bay near the popular St Aubin. This quiet spot is usually not crowded and is covered with pebbles and sands, lined with tall pines that provide protection against the sun. The waters here are not suitable for swimming. The parking facility here is limited but the beach is accessible through bus service.
Portelet
This attractive and popular beach is located on the south coast of the island. From the cliff top, a climb down a long flight of steps brings you to this soft, golden sand beach. This beach is seldom crowded probably because of its strenuous accessibility. The beach is quite sunny and is sheltered by the cliff in the background. There is quite a large car park at the top of the cliff and a beach café, pubs and restaurant near the parking. The waters are quite safe for swimming and bathing. However, be cautious on the Ile au Guerdain in the centre as the incoming tide makes it suitable only for confident and proficient swimmers. The tower on the islet is known as Janvrin's Tomb. Canoes are also available on the Portelet beach for hire.
Ouaisne
Adjoining the more popular St Brelade's Bay, this beach is accessible from the eastern end only, from the car parking. It is this area of the beach surrounding the parking area gets crowded. It is a southwest facing beach and receives ample sun but is sheltered and protected. It is quite safe for bathing and swimming. Besides the large parking space, the facilities include public toilets, cafe, bars and restaurant that are at the eastern end of the bay.
