Beaches in Curacao

The long and beautiful coastline of Curacao is lined with nearly 30 public and private beaches. The beaches range from the intimate rocky coves to long stretches of lively beaches. The sheltered southwestern coast with calm and crystal clear waters features almost all the swimming beaches of the island.


The northern coast of Curacao has a powerful surf and strong undertow and hence is not suitable for swimming. Topless bathing is officially prohibited on all the public beaches and some of the private ones as well. Curacao’s waters are a diver’s delight as they are filled with variety of marine life ranging from multi-colored Parrotfish, silvery Barracuda, spotted French Angelfish, colorful Butterfly-fish and Coral and Sea Anemones.

 

Cas Abao on Banda Abao looks beautiful with silvery white sands all along the beach lined with swinging palm trees and parasols. The waters off the coast are a real treat for swimmers, scuba divers and snorkelers. The facilities at the beach include a restaurant, showers and toilets. A raft for sunbathing and playing is moored off the beach. The entrance fee to the beach is Nafl 5 per car from Monday to Saturday and Nafl 10 on Sundays. The beach is usually crowded during the weekends.

 

Daaibooi Bay is a small bay close to the town with a rocky ledge and small fisherman's cove. This beach offers excellent opportunity for snorkeling. There are a few shade pergolas and snack trucks can be seen on the weekends. To the west of the beach, a small trail leads into the countryside.

 

Barbara Beach on Banda Ariba is a lovely beach and very suitable for children. This long stretch of beach is also ideal for a leisurely seaside stroll.  It offers all modern facilities including a restaurant, bar, showers and toilets. Admission charges for this beach are around Nafl 6 per person.

 

Seaquarium Beach in Curacao is a white sand stretch lined with palm trees. It has a good selection of shops, bars, restaurants and offers facilities for a wide variety of water sport. The beach remains quite busy on weekends. Topless sunbathing allowed here. The entrance fee for this beach is Nafl 4 per person.

 


Playa Forti is a picturesque beach in an impressive setting. It offers grand views of the fishing boats and the island's most Western tip. The beach has pleasant coarse brown sand but there no shade. The facilities include several snack bars and a restaurant at the parking area above the beach.


Caracasbay Island is an eco-resort that offers a variety of beach activities to the visitor. The wide range of sports includes jet skiing, kayaking, canoeing, horse back riding, mountain biking and much more. The walking tours are also organized at the beach. Playa Porto Marie is a quiet white sandy beach with several parasols and proves quite suitable for children. The waters here are excellent for diving or snorkeling and equipment is also readily available here. The facilities at the beach include showers and toilets and a bar with a large terrace. The entrance charges for this beach are Nafl 2.50 per person and there is no admission fee for children.

 

Playa Kenepa and Playa Abao are two beautiful coves and among Curacao’s most popular beaches. Playa Kenepa is an intimate and secluded area, partially shaded by trees. The snack bar with a tiny restroom is open on weekends and often plays local music. It is quite popular with the natives especially during school holidays. Playa Abao or Great Knip is larger and has several shade pergolas set back from the water and a large snack bar. A small salt marsh is behind the beach. The beach tends to get crowded at the weekends.

 

Jeremi is a narrow and scenic cove. If you visit it late in the day, it offers a lovely view of the sun set. The waters off the coast are exceptionally clear though there is not adequate shade in the area.

 

Playa Kalki is a sandy beach with limestone and is set in a pleasant quiet environ lined with trees. The beach also has an attractive snorkeling and diving spot. There is no entrance free and the facilities include a small bar, restaurant of Kadushi Cliffs and excellent Cliff House.
