Andros- the largest island of Bahamas

The largest amongst islands of the Bahamas, Andros covers an area of 2,300 sq. miles and supports a population of 8000 people. The inhabitants are a peaceful people who are skilled artists and craftsmen.

The island has a diverse and untouched topography ranging from the lush pine forests, dense palm and mahogany jungles, thick brushes and scrubs, mangrove swamps abundant with large colonies of seabirds, and inland lakes and inlets teeming with fish. The inland has over forty kinds of wild orchids, rare and endemic birds, and a variety of wild fauna including wild boar and iguanas as long as four feet.

The coastline is laced with miles of deserted beaches and creeks. The western shore of the island is a barren low bank called "The Mud”. Off the eastern shore is an impressive and spectacular 224km-long (140-mile) coral barrier reef, which is the world's third longest. Tongue of the Ocean lies beyond the reef where the ocean floor drops steeply to a depth of more than 1.5km (1 mile).

The crystal clear, blue waters are quite inviting and excellent for exploring the abundance of marine life here. There are opportunities galore for several challenging water adventures, whether diving or snorkelling, or the deep-water fishing, which is more popular and famous in these waters. It is also known as the bonefishing capital of the world as it offers the most amazing and memorable bonefishing. It also has to the oldest dive resort probably in the world.
