The Global Village (the theme for 2008 is Around the World in 80 Days)
The focal point of Dubai Shopping Festival, the Global Village has played a major role in shaping Dubai as a City of the World. Located on the Emirates Road in Dubailand, the Global Village showcases the myriad cultures of diverse countries & peoples. Over the years it has grown into a star attraction among UAE nationals, resident expatriates from over 160 different countries and visitors from across the world. Today, this major crowd-puller has been transformed into a unique international destination for tourism, entertainment, leisure and culture. As a world-class tourism destination, the Global Village brings together diverse customs and cultures covering a broad spectrum of activities including music, dances, arts and handicrafts, theatre, costumes and cuisine of different countries. The Global Village will be open from December 13 to March 1, 2008.
Carpet Oasis
The Carpet Oasis exhibits mind-boggling variety of exquisite products catering to the requirements and tastes of both local and international buyers. At the Oasis, only the most renowned high quality carpets and rugs like Persian rugs from Isfahan, Qumm, Na'een, Hamdan & Tabreez are showcased. The collection also includes spectacular carpets from regions like Hariki of Turkey, Afghanistan, India and Pakistan.
Hotels in Dubai
With a wide variety of hotels & hotel accommodation and lots more coming up, the hospitality industry in Dubai is really thriving. For budgets, both small and big, you can find a hotel of your choice here. Luxury hotel accommodations in Dubai range from US$ 150 for a single occupancy room US$ 600 for a suite.
Shopping Malls
Dubai is home to scores of shopping malls offering everything from cosmetics, jewelry to electronics and top fashion labels. During DSF, goods in Dubai are cheaper by 25% to 50% than in their country of origin. Some of the world famous malls like Burjuman, Dubai Mall, Wafi City and Mall of the Emirates are situated here. As part of the DSF festivities, they come alive every night with game shows and cultural programs.
Raffles & awards
The Lexus Raffle Draw has grown to be a major event of Dubai Shopping Festival. Also there are daily raffle draws with prizes of gold, money, Lexus cars or Nissan Patrols. Some of the raffles require participants to purchase raffle coupons or some others are given free after a purchase of gold or goods at the participating outlets. Dubai Shopping Festival has also instituted awards for Ideal Arab Mother & Ideal Family, where winners are awarded US$ 10,000.
Dubai Desert Classic
To be held at the Majlis course in Emirates Golf Club from January 28 to February 3, 2008, Dubai Desert Classic is held as part of the European PGA Tour. The competition unfolds at what was the first grass golf course in the Middle East. The tournament attracts some of the biggest names in the sport and offers US$ 2.2 million in prize money.
Dubai World Cup
Starting on March 29 & continuing upto March 31, 2008 is Dubai World Cup, the most anticipated event in the racing calendar. It is organized at the Nad Al Sheba Racecourse which boasts state-of-the-art facilities including some of the very best hospitality venues. Dubai World Cup offers a prize kitty of US$ 12 million and is the richest in the world.
Night Souq
Hugely popular among Asians, GCC nationals and UAE residents, the Night Souq is one of the highlights of Dubai Shopping Festival. It was incorporated in 2003 and attracts a large number of tourists who throng the venue for its leisurely night shopping.
