Dubai-The Shopping Capital of the Middle East

One of Dubai’s greatest attractions for visitors is its superb shopping. Being an open port with low import duties and no taxation, the city offers the bargain hunter unbeatable value. Most major brand name products are often less expensive in Dubai than their country of origin.

Ardent shoppers will find plenty of opportunities to develop their skills and flex their plastic. The numerous modern spacious shopping malls cater to virtually every kind of consumer need. High fashion, Gold and Jewellery, Electronics and Carpets and Handicrafts can be purchased. Dubai’s major shopping areas include Al Rigga Road, Karama, Al Dhiyafa Road, Bani Yas Square, Wafi, BurJuman Center, Lamcy Plaza, Al Dhiyafa Center, Karama Center, Al Rais Shopping Mall, Dune Center, Al Hana Center, Al Khaleej Center and Holiday Center are among the largest complexes.

The popular malls are more than just a place to shop; in the evenings and on weekends, there’s a lively social buzz to them and they are full of people window shopping, meeting friends, eating out and people watching.

Souk shopping can also be entertaining as well as profitable, and bargaining is expected. The sheer variety of goods available in the winding alleys is bewildering- from gold and the latest in electronics, cameras and wrist watches to spices, silks, house hold appliances and sports goods. The traditional souks with a bustling atmosphere offer a customer the essential thrills of shopping.

Truly amazing is the experience of buying gold from the Gold Souq in Deira which houses nearly 250 gold retail shops. Dubai is known as “the City of Gold” and a walk around the Gold Souk will confirm that the title is richly deserved.

The Souk is lined with shops laden with glinting gleaming ornaments in 18, 21, 22 and 24 carats. Every imaginable form and design of gold bracelets, rings, necklaces and bangles are available according to the international daily gold rate.
