Arriving or departing by sea is almost is not popular unless on a cruise ship or a yacht. Port Moresby, Madang and Milne Bay are the most popular anchorages. A 'customs clearance fee' of about US$40 is required if arriving by sea.

Jackson Field near Port Moresby is the international airport and lies 11km or 7km from the city.
There are duty-free and banking facilities at the airport and buses and taxis to the city are easily available. Another recent international airport is at Alotau, Milne Bay Province.
The country is very well-connected with Australia and there are direct connections with Singapore, Manila, Honiara (Solomon Islands), Jayapura (Irian Jaya, Indonesia) and Guam. Air Niugini, the national airline, operates between Australia and Asia in conjunction with Singapore Airlines.
The total flying time from London to Port Moresby is up to 30 hours but the journey usually takes at least two days.
