Bonaire abounds in restaurants representing diverse cultural and culinary traditions. The local dishes like stoba (stews) and sopi (soups) as well as hasa (fried) accompaniments can be had from wayside stalls for reasonable prices. |
The island has some fine dining outlets as well. During tourist seasons and weekends, it is always wise to make reservations.
Restaurants in Bonaire serve some odd but tasty fare like the classic surf n’turfs made with Argentine/Brazilian beef that you would hardly come across anywhere else. Italian, Mexican, Japanese, Lebanese, Spanish and American favourites can also be sampled here. For vegetarians, there is the fantastic Indonesian dish of green beans, sprouts and spicy peanut sauce called Gado Gado. Most joints accept cheques and credit cards.
The renowned Plaza Resort on the island is home to a truly enticing selection of restaurants that are sure to warm the heart of any genuine connoisseur of food. Spread over 12 acres and with over 300,000 tropical plants on its grounds Plaza Resort is one of the most exclusive dining spots on Bonaire. The 3 restaurants – The Caribbean Point, Banana Tree & Tipsy Seagull, and the solitary bar – Coconut Crash, here serve authentic French food coupled with the local Caribbean specialities.
Many restaurants are shore-front and offer bars as well as sit-down dining. With Bonaire’s year-round good weather and friendly breezes, most restaurants also offer al fresco dining (that's dining in the open for the monolingual among us).
