Newstead Hotel. Recommended. 49 rooms. Locally owned by Anthony and Dana Goodfellow. General manager from November 2000 is American Clarence Hofheins, previously at the Elbow Beach Hotel and before that, for 13 years the manager of the Sundance Ski Resort in Utah, one of the most prestigious in the world, owned by film star Robert Redford. He worked under the personal direction of Mr. Redford. Overlooking Hamilton Harbour, it has modern rooms considered some of the most spacious anywhere in Bermuda, almost all of them with a good sea view, and cottage suites. First opened in 1923, this 19th-century colonial manor is tasteful and elegant. It offers afternoon tea, two nice restaurants (the Granaway Room for sumptuous dining and Noah's Restaurant and Bar for seasonal dining), meal plan options, two tennis courts, putting green, heated pool in winter, small gymnasium, new spa for beauty treatments and fast Internet access in all rooms. Not on a bus route but with a good public ferry service nearby, so much nicer to use than the public buses by day (but the ferry service may be reduced somewhat by night from 2001).
